So-called ‘science’ is the theoretically systematic study of the natural and social phenomenon through observation and empirical evidence. Modern science has its
root predominantly in the West, and its development led the process of being opposed to religious domination and dogma. The base of our contemporary world,
therefore, includes the view that science and religion are not compatible.

However, according to Hanmaum Science by Seon Master Daehaeng, religion and science can coexist. It is possible because religion and science, as well as all lives
in the universe, share the same root of Hanmaum (One Mind). Han means “one,” “infinite,” and “combined,” and ma-um means “mind.” Thus, Hanmaum means the
fundamental mind that is not an individual thing, but the interconnected whole where all things are working together. For example, the consciousness of all cells in
our body and everything beyond physical body, including comets, planets, and the universe, ceaselessly function as one beyond time and space.

Seon Master Daehaeng says, “Modern science has advanced greatly, but it has now begun to reach limitations that science itself cannot overcome. Why is this?
Modern science deals with only the phenomenal half of existence. In order to overcome the limitations and know the whole, we must know the unseen half of
existence as well.” Therefore, she emphasizes that we must take a new approach to science by investigating from the perspective that both the material and
spiritual development are non-dual.

Consequently, Hanmaum Science is the study that integrates and develops both the spiritual and material realm at the same time. Hanmaum Science pursues insight
and intuition as well as wisdom and communication. Hanmaum Science takes the middle path that encompasses all extremes and the principle that all beings have this
foundation, and through it, all are connected as one, sharing the same life. Since Hanmaum Science can be applied and proven in daily circumstances, it can be also
called ‘Science of daily life’ in its genuine meaning

What people think of science is not a true science. If you pursue true science, you need to think outside of the existing concept.
When you break through your fixed ideas of science, you can experience genuine science bursting out with infinite variety.
